The One Where I Nearly Cheat

I am a good person. Generally. I try to be, anyway. But I am not perfect. Sometimes I fall short.

I love my husband. We’ve been married for twenty years. That’s more than half my life. Wait. Is it? How old am I? Hang on while I do the math. Carry the two, divide by the ratio of the moon’s circumference to its diameter… Okay, no. Not half my life, but close enough. Long time. Long enough that I am shocked at how close I came to betraying him.

It was so frighteningly easy to justify, too.

  • I’m home alone.
  • He’s out of town.
  • He will never know.
  • I’m bored.
  • I’m tempted.
  • He will never know.
  • I just really want to.
  • I never specifically said that I wouldn’t.
  • He’s probably done it himself.
  • He will never know.***

I wrestled these demons for an entire day, and I am proud to say I emerged victorious and true. I didn’t do it. I didn’t.  I resisted the temptation. I did not see Star Wars: The Force Awakens without him. But I might have eaten his Junior Mints while he was gone. Keep that between us, would you?

*** He would totally know. The man can sense The Force from twenty paces. He’s like Yoda.

      • My husband and I saw it in 3D. Together. I’m probably set for life now, but he will likely say, “hey, remember when you started bawling when YOU KNOW WHO got light sabered?” And I’ll try not to think about taking his toothbrush for a turn in the dog water dish … Yes, that’s me. The minty chocolate escapade, now that, I could totally do.

  1. I’m shocked!

I would have never thought you’re that kind of woman – to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” without your husband. It’s like, making dinner for yourself and then turning around and asking him, “Oh, were you hungry, too?”

So now will we see a post where you see the movie with him, pretend you’ve never seen it before and feign all your reactions all over again?

  2. Of course those skinks mate for life; it takes them that long to figure out which end to mate with!

Am I the only one who thinks they are missing out, by not releasing the Star Wars movie on May 4th?

  3. WW would have disowned me if I had seen the movie without him. Although, the last thing he said before he fell asleep last night was that he was a tad bit disappointed in it–felt it was pandering . . . dun, dun, dun! The world is coming to an end!

  4. LOL – I considered sneaking away to see The Force Awakens on my own, but I’m afraid of catching the next episode of American Horror Story for the same reason. I know I’ll be found out.

  5. You are a good person. You loved The Force Awakens and that makes you a good sort in my view. Meanwhile I totally want to see movies without hubby because I’ve given him many chances and he just keeps straying… to Foxtel box office while I’m away. He tells me about it afterwards, as if belated honesty will make it okay! 😉

  6. Glad you finally got to see it. I think I was the only person in the country who was not interested. (Well hubby wasn’t either. I guess that is why we are compatible.) I saw the first bunch when they came out. (I maintain that I was in diapers.) It was great then, I just do not want to go back.

It is the same way I feel about fashion when trends come back around. I already wore that trend, not going back. OK I might try bell bottoms again should they return, but I am not doing peasant dresses or painters pants again. lol

  7. Well, I can’t say as my husband would care if I messed around with Star Wars, there are definitely TV shows I cannot watch without him, even if he’s out of town. Thank goodness for the DVR! Love your blog, btw 🙂

A penny for your thoughts! And by penny, I mean a warm-fuzzy in your heart.
