Attitude of Gratitude. #BloggersUnite

This is a good post for me to do today. It’s only the second week of January and already this year is trying to eat me alive. It’s way too easy to focus on the negative. I don’t want to do that. I have it pretty good, and I need to remember that. I am grateful for:

  • The disaster that is 2018. God knows what we all need, and he shapes us. The way to mold silver is with fire, and without the heat, I’ll stay the same sad shape. I have needed my series of unfortunate events because it has forced me to do the thing that is hardest for me to do – to ask for (and accept) help. I am an independent person. I can do it myself. MYSELF, DO YOU HEAR ME? And then suddenly, I can’t. Yesterday alone I had to ask for help five times. Yeah, I hate being helpless so much that I keep track. And it’s good for me. People want to help, just like I want to help people. From getting a lift home to getting someone to drive me and a giant aquarium across the zoo because I can’t carry it myself, I have humbled myself.

This dog.She makes me laugh, she gets me off my bum to go for walkies, she keeps the kitties in their proper place.

Lumen wearing her “Where’s the cookie?” face

  • And this guy. Here he is all ready for the eclipse.

This is just a joke. The animals don’t gaze at the sun, so they don’t need eye protection. But doesn’t he look fly?

And in gallery format:

  • Friends who make me coffee
  • the Women’s March
  • those days when my students really seem to get it and engage in the material
  • writing
  • chocolate
  • possibilities on the horizon
  • a car that needs a new engine but will still get me to work
  • my church family
  • My God who is bigger than all of this and who has the whole world in His hands.
  • Students who won’t stop talking to each other because they have discovered some cool science experiments they really want to share their friends.
  • My job.
  • Good books.
  • Music.
  • My computer, even though I hate Windows 10.
  • All my kids.
  • Plants! All the weird and wonderful plants!

There’s more, but my brain has entered shut-down mode, and I can’t be all that effective. I need to Post this today so I can be a part of Dawn’s link up.

What are you grateful for? Share the joy.

  1. There is no frog! And when you click the link-up link, it takes you (well, ME, maybe only me?) to a page listing numerous linkups, including two “Dawn” ones. Please fix this? Thanks!

Also, I can’t read the whole caption on your selfie with Big Al. It stops at “sitting and”. 😦

    • I changed the pictures from a slideshow to a grid to improve the caption and to show the frog pics.

The link-up link works as it should. It’s a collection of the others who are in the link up with a button to add your own. Does that make sense?

      • I’m grateful for the grid. I needed to read the rest of that caption. And the link worked, but I’m actually USED to there being a frog on the page I’m connecting FROM (i.e. here; your blog). Also, I linked, but was gratitude the theme, or was #BloggersUnite one of the “rules”? I mean, I did post about gratitude, but I used #CheckThatBox as my hashtag, because reasons. Am I gonna get banned from linkups? 😥

      • whoops! I just realized that you thought I couldn’t see the frog PICS! Saw everything just fine!

I meant that there wasn’t a frog “button” to click at the end of your post, just the link. sorry for the confusion

        • NOW I GET IT! I was thinking “Well, the frog pics WERE pretty bad ones, but maybe they aren’t showing up…” Yeah, I don’t know how to get the little froggie thing to sit on my blog unless I’m the link up host.

You will NOT be banned from playing. I am grateful that you joined in!

  3. Put aside that your 9 year-old is adorable, I was waiting for the turtles… I know tortoise for some, and other reptiles and amphibians. Admittedly, I’m not a snake girl, but oh how I love baby turtles–– and voilá! Frogs are way up there on my list too, and oh happy day, there they are. Thanks so much for joining the #BloggersUnite Attitude of Gratitude again this year, Heather! I did a little happy dance just reading this, but the pictures are just wonderful.

  4. Gratitude makes a huge difference. I too love my computer and avoided “upgrading” to 10 so I’m still happy with 7. I have graphics apps that don’t “upgrade” well–Adobe products and Windows do not play nicely together, so when I get them to work I stick with the OS as long as possible! I think Adobe apps were originally designed for Apple computers.

A penny for your thoughts! And by penny, I mean a warm-fuzzy in your heart.
